Open Board Position
After many years of service on the PUD board, Don Bateman has resigned. His knowledge and service will be missed. If you would be interested in serving on the board, please send a short paragraph about yourself to Admin@FlyingLPUD.com It is very interesting work and nothing is more important than the services we provide to the community.
Our Trash Policy
Above is the PUD Trash policy that is posted on the building near the dumpsters. It is simple but because we all have pride in our community, there are a few other things we can do to keep the area as neat as possible.
Days we empty Dumpsters - First, it might be helpful to understand what we do. The dumpsters are emptied on Mon, Weds and Fri. There is an extra day between pickups over the weekend and of course that is when everyone wants to take their trash. We have all seen how full they can get on Sun evening. So, if you have larger amounts of trash, it is helpful to throw it Mon through Thursday. There is always lots of room in the middle of the week so try scheduling all your trash runs Mon -Thurs.
Breaking down Boxes - As most of you know, we have had to implement a fine on people who do not break down boxes. As much as we hate doing this, it is the single biggest problem of overly full dumpsters. Most people understand this and we issue very few fines. Thanks for understanding.
Bagging your trash - many people bag their trash but if everyone did it, there would be a lot less trash on the ground. When the trucks come to empty the dumpsters, if the trash is not bagged, it falls to the ground and then blows out into the field. We pay people to pick it up but it is difficult to keep up with it, so please do your part to keep it clean by bagging your trash.
Spring Cleaning - the dumpsters are for household trash but as we all know, occationally we have things that are bigger and do not fit in a bag. Call the PUD office or a board member and let us help you with it. Sometimes it is as simple as dumping larger items during the week. Or in the case of a mattress or appliance, call and we can help you dispose of it. We have a young man who will pick it up for a fee. Or we provide on the sign a place for you to take them yourself. But DO NOT just leave them on the ground. We have cameras and you will be fined. Again, call us and we will help you take care of it.
Outside Dumping by non-residents - this has been a problem, but we work with one of the Constables who will issue citations to people dumping illegally. As mentioned, we have cameras and we call on those we catch. However, if you see someone that looks like they do not belong on the ranch, please cotact us with as much info as you can and we will follow up.
Use the Burn Pile - The ranch has provided a place to put all brush and cuttings so we do not have to fill our dumpsters with them. This burn pile is through the gates, just past the dumpsters. Please use it for cuttings.
Our Rates - The PUD charges $12 per month for the dumpsters. This rate has not changed for many years, at least 6 years that I know of. As you know, there is very little that has not gone up in that time period. Our dumping costs to the PUD has just increased and we are holding the rate steady for as long as we can. You, as the residents, can help keep these rates low by following these simple, common sense rules.
Water Outages
Over the past few weeks, there have been 2 water outages and maybe the details are less important then making sure you know we are on top of the situation. Anyway, here is what happened.
Last month-there was a break in the line on Flying L Dr. across from the tennis courts and near the Executive Villas. This is the one of the oldest parts of the system and somehow the ground shifted enough to pull the 4" main water line out of the valve it was connected to. The problem with this area of the ranch, we do not have valves to isolate it so the entire ranch had to be shut off to repair it. The PUD started last year taking one section at a time to install valves so each part of the ranch can be isolated in case of a problem like this. We have completed 4 sections at the front of the ranch, but obviously this area has not been done. It will be next.
Last week - the water outage was a mechanical issue. At the main water plant on Bottle Springs Rd. there are two pumps that supplies water to the residents. Last week we had issues with both. Since January, we have rebuilt both of these pumps and stangely enough, both of these pumps failed for 2 different reasons. One of the pumps failed for mechanical reasons and was fixed. The second pump failed to start because of an electrical issue.
Water Issues at Your Home
We want everyone to know we are concerned about the quality of water and the service you receive from the Flying L PUD. Our operators are on site and available, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Holidays are no exception. So if you have an issue with your water, please say something. There is no issue that cannot be solved. We have a extensive flushing schedule that is done each month and slowly, the lines are being flushed clean. We are here to serve the residents and working together, the improvements will continue to get better.
