Welcome to the First Flying L PUD Newsletter
There is a lot happening at the PUD and it is our goal to keep you, the residents as informed as possible. First and most important is water quality and as few interuptions in service as possible. Here is what we are doing.
Tank Cleaning - we have 2-50,000 gallon water holding tanks on Bottle Springs Rd. Over the years they have developed a couple of inches of silt on the bottom. On April 28th, there will be divers going down in the tanks to vacuum out the silt. I have never seen this done, might be fun to watch.
Valve Maintenance -It is a huge frustration to have your water service interupted for any number of reasons, but it will happen from time to time. However, we should have the ability to turn off only the affected area rather than the entire ranch. The problem is many of our valves have not been exercised regularly so they do not work or have been lost due to over growth. Last week, we located all the valves on Glenvalley, Oak Hills and Knollwood.
Then on Weds and Thurs, the 6 that do not work will be replaced. Here is what to expect. On Weds and Thurs, April 21-22, there will be interruptions. We think we can isolate the front of the ranch but it may very well require turning off everyone for a while. We will dig first and get ready before turning off the water. Once the water is off, the work should be completed relatively quick but it may be half a day or so. Also, what will happen is a boil alert will be issued since the lines will be open, but I promise this time it will be taken to the lab that same day and back I hope in 24 hours. You will be sent alerts along the way.
Line Flushing - Over the past few years, there has not been a regular line flushing schedule set up. It has been the practise that a line is flushed when there is an issue. You have heard me talking about circular lines and deadend lines. The circular lines only need to be flushed every 2-3 months because water is moving through them. Examples are Glenvalley and Knollwood. However, we have a few lines that deadend and do not circulate. An example is Creekwood. These deadend lines will now be flushed once every 30 days. The circular lines will be flushed on a rotating basis. Beginning the 1st of next month, a schedule will be kept in the office and you are welcome to check on your street. However, please report any issue that may come up.

Personnel Changes

Jerry Hefley - our water operator has resigned. Municipal Operations & Consulting Inc. (MOC) will be taking over all sewer and water operations. MOC is a large group that manages over 90 PUDs and MUDs in Houston and are expanding into the Hill Country. They are very experienced and we expect great things going forward. Jay Call - a resident on Deerwood, has joined the PUD in the office helping with payments and the financial side of the business. She has the blue truck, so if you see it, stop in and say hi. You will like her and she will do anything posible to help.

TCEQ Investigation Of Sewer Plant

On March 10th, a state inspector came to inspect our sewer plant and lift stations. She wrote us up for 12 violations. Most had to do with maintenance issues, much of which have been taken care of. However, there were other issues that were long over due, for example, we do not have back up power here or at our water wells. We are installing autodialers so when a problem does come up, it will call to alert someone. As serious as this is, it has drawn much needed attention and the community will be better off after all the violations are addressed.
